REWITEC: Development – Production – ServiceEver since the wheel was invented, inventive people have concerned themselves with the reduction of friction and wear and technologies designed to optimise friction-related processes. As the old saying goes, ‘If you grease well, you speed well’. Along with the development of suitable lubricants, the choice of materials employed in construction, surface coating and surface topographies can also be found at the forefront of today’s research efforts. (Refer to Wikipedia Tribology). REWITEC is actively involved in the ‘surface coating’ segment of tribology (the science of interacting surfaces). The name of our company is a contraction of the German title ‘Reparatur- und Wiederherstellungstechnologie’ (repair and restoration technology). Innovative developments from Rewitec GmbH were finalists at the 28th German Innovation Awards in 2007 and the Husum WindEnergy Awards 2009. Every form of lubrication attempts to create a separating film intended to prevent direct contact between metal surfaces. Since time immemorial, this has been the function of oils and greases. But when this lubricant film breaks down, everyone knows the results – severe damage to engines, bearings, gearboxes and transmission systems and the like. Friction and wear account for annual losses amounting to around 5% of the gross national product in the industrialised nations of the world; for Germany, this means a sum of approximately 35 billion euros – every year! However, the consistent implementation of existing tribological know-how could easily save an estimated 5 billion euros per year. (Refer to Wikipedia Tribology). The mission of REWITEC is to take advantage of the potential savings in energy and resources, and the time and money invested in production and maintenance... |
